A car that was shown to the world in 1996, that may be one of the best-handling production roadsters you can find anywhere, is the Porsche Boxster. It has been virtually unchanged since the beginning, with only changes to the interior-options, and some moderate horsepower changes, but the Boxster is still a fast, powerful car. Typically any time they have a successful design, Porsche keeps the design of the car for a long time.
During 2005, there was the introduction of a second-generation Boxster that was more powerful, but stayed with Porsche's usual conservative evolutionary path. Similar to a Porsche Spyder, it nevertheless has the two seats along with six cylinders and a mid-engine that it had in earlier models. In the new Boxster, you still realize that more than 50% of the makeup and electronics are taken from the 911 Carrera. The 2005 offers considerably more force than the 2004 version due to alterations of the torque and increased horsepower. The velocity and high performance capability made the 2005 Boxster S a nearly exact equivalent of the more costly Porsche 911 Carrera.
The Boxster's characteristic trombone sound that arises with its exhaust just isn't like that of any other vehicle. Since the engine is similar to the six-cylinder of the Carrera, only on a smaller scale, this is fairly surprising. A five-speed manual transmission has become industry-standard with the Boxster but can be upgraded to a six-speed if you wish. It can also get the five-speed Porsche-designed Tiptronic automatic transmission system installed, which is an excellent option. This is the result of an upcoming trend in which the driver will be able to manually shift an automatic vehicle. This is definitely not an opulent car, even though the Boxster has high quality bodywork and interior, there is nothing purely decorative.
The earlier car was criticized for its budget look, but the interior has become upgraded some since then. Featuring an updated gearshift and synthetic titanium paneling, the center console is noticeably improved. The brand new Boxster has improved seating with higher quality body shape and support. Transporting stuff around will not cause you any headaches because the Boxster has a small trunk in the back and a bigger one in the front under the hood. The Boxster comes with a nice function in its powered convertible top which has the ability to rapidly open and shut at speeds close to 30 mph. The roof is able to tolerate any type of weather and is made of noiseless cloth tops, while the back window boasts heated glass.
The Boxster is recognized as a mid-engine vehicle, because the six-cylinder engine is found in front of the rear axle, and behind the seats. No engine will be underneath the hood so don't bother hunting for it in that location. To look at the engine, you'll have to elevate the car so you can get under it. Having the engine nearby the middle of the car distributes the weight more uniformly. This supplies the Porsche Boxster its status for top-notch handling.
